Debatra ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your personal information and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform.

Information You Provide:
- Account: Username, email address, and password when you register.
- Profile: Optional avatar, biography, and other information you add to your public profile.
- Content: Debates, stances, arguments, votes, and any other content you post.
- Communications: Messages you send us, including support requests.

- Log Data: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps.
- Usage Data: Interaction patterns, voting behavior, and session duration.
- Cookies: Authentication tokens and preference cookies as described below.
From Third Parties:
- OAuth: If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Platform Operations: Account management, core debate functionality, and service delivery.
- Personalization: Reputation scores, tier-based features, and content recommendations.
- Communications: Service notifications, vote milestones, and support responses.
- Safety: Detecting fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Service.
- Analytics: Understanding usage and improving the platform.
- Legal Compliance: Meeting applicable laws and regulations.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it in these limited circumstances:
- With Other Users: Your public profile, debates, stances, and reputation score are visible to other platform users by design.
- Service Providers: Trusted vendors (cloud hosting, analytics, support) who are contractually bound to protect your data.
- Business Transfers: If Debatra is acquired or sold, data may transfer. We will notify you beforehand.
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect safety.
4. Cookies and Tracking
- Essential Cookies: Required for authentication and platform functionality. Cannot be disabled.
- Preference Cookies: Store settings like theme (light/dark mode).
- Analytics Cookies: Help us understand usage. You can opt out via browser settings.
5. Data Retention
- Account Data: Retained while your account is active plus 90 days after deletion for recovery.
- Content: May be retained in anonymized form to preserve public discussion integrity.
- Log Data: Automatically deleted after 12 months.
6. Your Privacy Rights
You may have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data ("Right to be Forgotten").
- Portability: Receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection / Restriction: Object to or restrict certain processing activities.
- Withdraw Consent: Where we rely on consent, withdraw it at any time.

7. California (CCPA/CPRA) Rights
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, delete it, opt out of any sale (we do not sell data), correct inaccurate information, and be free from discrimination for exercising these rights. Submit requests to privacy@debatra.com with subject "California Privacy Request."
8. European (GDPR) Rights
EEA/UK residents: we process your data under Contract (to provide services), Legitimate Interests (analytics, security), Legal Obligation, and Consent (for optional features). Contact our DPO at dpo@debatra.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
9. Children's Privacy
Debatra is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe we have, contact privacy@debatra.com and we will delete it promptly.
10. Data Security
We use TLS/HTTPS encryption in transit, encryption at rest, secure authentication, and regular security audits. While we take reasonable precautions, no system is impenetrable. We will notify you of material data breaches as required by law.
11. International Transfers
Your data may be processed in countries with different privacy laws. We use Standard Contractual Clauses and other lawful transfer mechanisms to protect international data transfers.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated via email and a prominent platform notice. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
