Mastering Assertion
The definitive statement of your claim.
The Assertion is the "Headline" of your argument. It must be bold, declarative, and specific. Elite debaters avoid "hedging" (words like "maybe" or "in my opinion") because they weaken the psychological impact of the claim. A strong Assertion sets the stage for the Convincing and Logical Consistency tags.
The Trap Example
"GOOD: "Universal Basic Income is the only viable solution to automation-led job loss." BAD: "I think maybe UBI might help with some of the job problems we see today.""
